The UK-based international walking football body, FIWFA announced a Walking Football World Nations Cup in 2019, to be held in 2020 and every two years thereafter. Australia became a part of the international WF scene from the beginning and WFFA is one of six foundation FIWFA member associations. â€‹

CoViD delayed the inaugural event until August 2023, when Australia sent teams to compete in both categories at this tournament, hosted at the home of national teams from England; the prestigious and revered St Georges Park.

The squad name, Foreveroos, aptly describes Australian players wanting to compete at the highest level and play Walking Football forever.

The Association of Walking Football Australia provides members with opportunities to play in Walking Football events across Australia and globally.

In September, 2023 the AWFA and N9 Walking Football Club from Seremban, Malaysia entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. As part of this agreement the parties agreed to collaborate, organise, promote and participate in a tournament known as the “Asia Pacific Walking Football Cup”. Both parties invite likeminded clubs/associations from the Asia Pacific region to affiliate and to participate in this ongoing international event to celebrate the sport of walking football, to showcase the sport’s inclusivity and to raise WF awareness.

Established in 2019, Australia Walkaroos were one of the fourteen international teams invited to play in the Inaugural IWFF Walking Football World Championship in London in June 2019.

Since then, Walkaroos teams have taken part in tournaments in Florence, Italy in 2022, Cardiff, Wales in 2023 and Chesterfield, England in 2024, providing players with the opportunity to represent their country and showcase their skills on the international stage.

Walkeroos Seventies

The Australian Walking Football Seventies' major purpose is to identify and unite players in their seventies actively participating in walking football across Australia. They share information and news about Walking Football activities tailored to this age group, through scouting and recruiting talented individuals who embody the values of the game to represent the Walking Football National over70s representative teams in international competitions. The AWFS is an unincorporated group, run by volunteers continually sourcing opportunities for over 70s to play at the highest level in representing Australia at international walking football events.

Currently there is no financial support for players from Australian sports associations or entities to attend any international Walking Football tournaments, so please be mindful that all players are self-funded. Some additional funds are raised through sponsorships, fundraisers and local grants to assist with the financial burden.
